My name is Chen Li and I am a PhD candidate in the College of Education at Purdue University. I have been providing professional trainings for both undergraduate and graduate students in the Elementary Education program and ELL licensure program at the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. My research areas include language and literacy education and assessment policies for language minority students, second language and bilingual education of the emergent bilinguals, Chinese heritage language education, academic content and language high-stakes testing and classroom-based assessment, instructional techniques such as use of dialogic teaching, multiple text instruction, reading comprehension strategies to develop critical thinking and higher-level reading comprehension skills for language minority students. In regards to my dissertation, it aims to explore how the new federal educational policy, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), influences the literacy and language teaching and assessment practices for Chinese English language learners. Thank you!
